In memory

Thank you for considering donating to Calibre, in memory of someone you love at this difficult time. A bereavement is very upsetting whenever it occurs and we hope that you will take some comfort from knowing that your donation will bring the joy of audiobooks to thousands of people with a disability that makes reading print difficult, for years to come.

How to donate in memory of a loved one

You will have your own reasons why leaving an in-memory gift to Calibre is the perfect way to create a lasting tribute to your loved one and help keep your special memories alive.

It might be that you remember how much they loved reading and seeing the smile on their face when they were listening to one of our books. Or it could be you remember how proud they were of a beloved grandchild who had reading difficulties and how they appreciated the help and support our books provided. Below are some of the ways you can donate and please be assured that every pound donated will be used to help us continue to provide our service to those that need it.

Online Tribute Page

Creating an online Tribute Page is the perfect way to share the special memories of your loved one with family and friends. People who visit the page will also be able to share their thoughts, photos, videos and music as well as send virtual gifts, to make this a unique and meaningful way to celebrate the life of your family member or friend. The Tribute page will be personal to you and will honour their memory. It can be added to at any time, perhaps when celebrating special occasions that are important to you and your family and friends. It is a permanent memorial that is there for you to use as you wish and if you choose to do so, it can also be used to raise money for Calibre Audio.

If you would like to set up a Tribute page this link will take you to the Much Loved website, which hosts the service for us. Once you have set up your Tribute you can also add a Funeral Notice to your page if you wish. This is a way to advise your guests of the important details of the service and any gathering afterwards. A Google map link can also be added to the notice if required, travel directions, and any special wishes that you may have for the day. If this is something that you would like to do, please click here.

If you would prefer just to leave a short personal message or memory (with or without a photo) in honour of your loved one, without setting up a tribute page this can be done on our Forget Me Nots Memory page.

If you would like us to claim gift aid on your donation, please complete and return the Gift Aid Declaration form below with your gift. In Memory collection envelopes

We are able to send you In Memory collection envelopes for the funeral or a later celebration of life event which can be used by funeral directors, friends or family members. Each envelope includes a Gift Aid declaration to make donations go even further, and people can choose whether or not they would like to receive further information about Calibre and other ways they can support us.

To request a supply of In Memory envelopes please either call us or send us an email. Envelopes are sent out promptly with a Freepost envelope for their safe return.

Dedicate a book in memory of a loved one

Sometimes people want to leave a more enduring tribute to a loved one and we are able to offer them the choice of dedicating one or more new titles that will be added to our collection, in their memory. We record an audio dedication at the beginning of each book which is chosen by the family or friends to celebrate the life of their loved one. To sponsor a book costs £250 per title and if this is something that you would like to do, please contact Denise James in our Editorial Team on 01296 432 339 or by email and she will be able to help you choose a book to dedicate.

How your In Memory donation supports Calibre

Calibre Audio is charity that receives no government funding and so relies on the generosity of supporters to fund most of the cost of running our service which improves the lives of so many people.

Your support will help us to add around 800 - 900 new book titles to our collection each year and deliver around 400,000 books annually, either through the post or online, to our 15,000 members. The following quote is from the daughter of a member who wanted to leave Calibre a gift in memory and as a tribute to her mother.

My mum was a member of Calibre for around 15 years and it was only in the last three years that she was unable to listen and comprehend. In her earlier membership years she was so happy to be able to listen to "her books" and her dream for when she retired from work was to have the time to read whenever she wanted. Sadly she lost her sight but her dream was brought to fruition by your service. I am positive her life would have been so much worse if your delivery service had not been available. Your service kept her feeling independent, this being something she could actually do herself in her diminishing world. People seldom appreciate that to maintain any small part of being independent when you are disabled has a massive effect on your well being and sense of worth. I also believe, in accordance with research, that staying connected slows the onset of dementia. Having experienced every single day over the last three years with my mum with Alzheimer's Disease, that is something we would certainly all wish for.
Julie Cragon, daughter of member Kathleen Briggs

Whichever way you choose to remember your loved one and support Calibre, we would like to thank you on behalf of all the members, staff and volunteers at Calibre. Your donation really will make a huge difference to thousands of people who struggle to read standard print books.
