Become a Volunteer Narrator

Our narrators are the voices of Calibre. We rely on a team of over 80 volunteer narrators, mostly voice professionals. They record books that are not commercially available so that our members have the widest possible choice of titles. Some of our volunteers have been with us for decades and have recorded over 100 books each.

Would you enjoy being part of this team? We can offer the opportunity to:

  • Use your reading skills in a creative and rewarding activity

  • Record in your own time and at your own pace

  • Provide some training and support in recording

  • Meet other narrators at our open days

  • Gain immense satisfaction from knowing that your recording will provide hours of pleasure to our members

Calibre narrators must:

  • Be skilled in book narration and able to really bring books to life. As well as professional actors, broadcasters and others trained in voice work, we have some ‘gifted amateurs’ who are accustomed to using their voices in their everyday life, such as teachers, a vicar and public speakers

  • Have a reasonable degree of proficiency in IT skills

  • Be prepared to record books in their own homes (we may be able to provide the necessary equipment if required)

We are especially interested in recruiting young voices, and/or voices from the BAME community, but are happy to receive voice samples from anyone who thinks they have the skills we are looking for. Voice samples can be sent to us via your own web link, or through WeTransfer (calibreaudio.wetransfer.com).
