We’re proud that Dame Judi Dench has dedicated her support to Calibre Audio over many years.

As our Vice-President, Dame Judi helps shine a light on the importance of keeping stories accessible to people living with sight loss or other print disabilities.

Dame Judi’s new memoir, Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It? is now live in our library and available for Calibre Audio members to borrow, offering a personal account of her extraordinary life and career spanning more than seven decades. Its publication highlights a wider message: reading should remain accessible to everyone, regardless of changes in their circumstances or abilities.

In an interview with the BBC, Dame Judi spoke about her life and experiences, including the challenges associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As our Vice-President, her experience highlights the purpose at the heart of our work: ensuring that people with a print disability can continue to enjoy books, stories and the independence that reading brings.

Anthony Kemp, CEO at Calibre Audio, explained: “Dame Judi Dench’s lived experience is a powerful reminder that sight loss should not mean losing access to the joy of reading. Books offer so much more than entertainment, they provide comfort, companionship, knowledge and connection. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy books, whatever their circumstances, and we’re incredibly proud to have Dame Judi as our Vice-President.”
