Calibre's recorded books are now available as part of a vast collection.
The Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) formed in 2014 after the adoption of the Marrakesh Treaty in 2013, which aims to improve the availability and cross-border exchanges of certain works and other protected subject matter in accessible formats for those that need them.
The ABC facilitates this by providing a platform for organisations to join so the number of books worldwide in accessible formats - such as braille, audio, e-text, large print – are available to people who are blind, have low vision, or are otherwise print disabled. They currently have over 900,000 books listed from other organisations, over 500,000 of which are in audio format.
Calibre's own-recorded books are now available for organisations who represent print disabilities to view and request titles from them.
Members of Calibre will have access to audiobooks from all over the world with the potential to obtain audio in other languages. Calibre can build its own collection of community language books for members to borrow.
Calibre will be adding an option to request a book via their website if it can’t find it in their catalogue. In the meantime you can email enquires@calibre.org.uk as usual or call the Calibre membership services team with a request on 01296 432339.
