Sara's Story

A serious eye injury and, in subsequent years, a diagnosis of ME, has meant that I now find it very difficult to read printed material or use e-readers for any length of time, and repeated trips to the library to borrow audio books are too exhausting.

At a time when I was feeling so isolated and my whole world seemed to be closing in, Calibre Audio were there, providing an invaluable service that has allowed me to access a vast range of audio books across a wide range of categories.

I love immersing myself in the worlds of the characters and getting totally absorbed in the plots, which helps to take me away from my own situation, even if only for a short time. Using audio books also helps me to exercise those cognitive skills of listening, concentrating and remembering.

The relatively recent addition of digital books, which I download to my tablet via the Dolphin EasyReader app, has made it even easier to use Calibre’s service. I can now carry my ‘book’ around the house and even ‘read’ in the garden.

I have always loved reading and, thanks to the generous provision of time, money and support from the staff, volunteers, donors and sponsors of this fantastic charity,Calibre Audio has enabled me to continue enjoying this past-time.

May Calibre Audio long continue to provide this support to all those who would otherwise be unable to carry on experiencing the joy that comes from the basic human pursuit of reading.
